February 11-14th 2021 3 day workshop
cultivating deep somatic self connection
be unlonely while single or together
In this course you will learn about the 11 types of loneliness and how each one has introduced themselves to me over the course of my lifetime and the many tools I have developed to over come them: These 11 types come in 3 categories described below. Additionally as an integrative body worker I have found that 4 physiological areas need to be addressed for effective long term healing: Bio-chemical, Bio-electrical, Mental/Emotional/Spiritual and Structural. In this workshop we will examine the story of loneliness in its many forms and use tools that work in all these 4 areas to help you achieve long lasting health and vitality. This workshop is meant to be an bite sized taste of to a much more in depth 5 day workshop where we work one one on one with individuals with the tools of compassionate inquiry, non-violent communication, authentic relating, MEssage and somatic integration.

THE 3 CATEGORIES & 11 TYPES OF LONELINESS
Categories are defied by the broadest set of circumstances which each of the types fall under.
CATEGORY 1 LONELY WHEN ALONE:Being alone when you're lonely is often filled with heaviness, sadness, grief and a sense of being unwanted and forgotten. We feel like our lives are in a rut that ranges from boredom to loneliness. In its most hopeless express it is experienced as depression. This is when the loneliness of isolation feel unescapable.
1. Loneliness of not knowing oneself: This is commonly experienced in youth as we are just getting to know ourselves but it can also occur at any point in our lives as we often subscribe to the beaten path without ever examining who we are and what is right for us. When this happens in adulthood we often describe it as a midlife crises.
2. Loneliness of not liking oneself: This is often induced by some form of stress or trauma where there is a loss of self-trust. From this lack of trust we finds ourselves trying to escape from being present. This can be anything from alcoholism to workaholism and the many subtle escapes in food, television and other distractions.
3. Loneliness of Isolation: This is caused by either a geographical or circumstantial block that prevents access to an adequate quantity of social connection. Though each person will have different interaction needs we are mammals and we need intimacy, community and connection.
CATEGORY 2 LONELY AROUND OTHERS:Lonely around others occurs when we actually feel more disconnected from ourselves in the presence of others. We feel a range of uncomfortable feelings from stress, anxiety, guardedness, disassociation and awkwardness. At an extreme we can become so uncomfortable in our bodies that we experience of sweating, shaking trouble breathing, stomach aches or other symptoms of a panic.
4. Loneliness of Disconnection: When both people what to be in relation to each other but there is some sort of block that prevents them from connecting.
5. Loneliness of Rejection: This happens when one person what's to connect and the other person or group does not. This can involve a circumstance that brings the two people into contact or not, either way there is a deliberate and sometimes subtle wall that can not be overcome.
6. Loneliness of Obligation: Where both parties do not want to connect with the other but some circumstance brings them together. Often there is a shared location, activity or relationship that brings them in contact and sometimes also a mutual goal that requires that they collaborate.
CATEGORY 3 LONELY IN THE WORLD:7. Loneliness of Purpose: Our work life is nose to the grind 40 plus hours a week of mundane uncreative tasks that leave us with no sense of purpose. Our life is survival and our existences feels meaningless.
8. Loneliness of Failure: When we have a clear sense of our purpose and path but the rest of the world does not recognize our value. At times we are persecuted and ahead of our time. Many people in science, art and other categories were only acknowledged, and at times wildly celebrated, in death. Some of the most famous include Vincent Van Gough, Henry David Thoreux, Oscar Wilde, Galileo. We soldier on as lone wolfs... we alone have the eyes to see the greatness that lives within.
9. Loneliness of Earth: The planet is sadly a place of great violence, environmental destruction, war, brutality and strife. At times we see our planet heading in a direction that we do not agree with and yet we are here feeling out of place in a world that does not feel like home.
THE LONELINESS OF LOSS - A LONELINESS THAT INCLUDES ALL 3 CATEGORIES
One type of loneliness crosses into all three categories and this is type number 10, the loneliness of loss of which there are two distinct sources
10. Loneliness of Loss of Self: This is when you lose some aspect of yourself that you identify as you the event causes you to feel lonely when alone because you no longer know who you are, around others as you can not relate to others as you did before and you feel lonely in the world and without a sense of purpose. This can happen when you lose your health or some aspect of you that is associated with your identify such as a position, job title or role of the community. The most common result of this type of loneliness is suicide or suicidal thoughts. When we can no longer attach to our own sense of self we loose the will to go on.
11. Loneliness of Loss of Another: This loss is happens either through death or changing circumstances but the sense of loneliness is differentiated from simply a feeling of grief or sadness in that we have identified some aspect of ourselves in another and with them we are unable to know who we are, we don't know how to interact with others and we lose our sense or meaning to our life. Some example such as a parent sending a child off to school or losing or a job or position.
