We are excited to be introducing the members of Kiva to MEssage an easy and effective self massage techniques to unwind our pain physical and emotional patterns. We will begin with a head to toe MEssage flow April 8 Seated chair flow and April 22 Floor Mat flow.
Our theme this month is the core concepts that make MEssage uniquely Easy and Effective.
EASY because MEssage takes advantage of these six dynamic concepts to apply greater force with less effort.
1. The fulcrums in our body are used to access the mechanical advantage of our built in levers to maximize force with minimal effort.
2. We also apply stacking positions to use gravity instead of strength to maximize pressure.
3. The concept of mutual massage will be explained so that you never trade pain in your body for pain in your fingers.
4. Letting go and massaging with an open hand, relieving grip strength pain.
5. You will develop smart feet and learn to massage yourself with the strongest hands on your body, your feet.
6. Pull power! When it comes to pull vs push we are far stronger and enduring in our ability to pull, yet most of us rarely pull in massage.
EFFECTIVE because the problem is often not where the pain is and when we address the underlying problems your pain is resolved. Our muscles and bones create a dynamic set of levers and pullies that create the movement patterns we enjoy. When one muscle shortens it can cause pain further down the movement chain and though getting the pain point massaged feels good, it will be quick to return.

Class 1 October 15 (Outside on towel or yoga mat): Laying down Easy Self Massage while somatically integrating appreciation and gratitude for our bodies exactly as they are.
Emotional Resilience Cultivation: We will release physical pain with MEssage while reprograming the thoughts that cause us pain. Emotions are stored in our bodies and when we touch ourselves the noise of those somatic memories often come up. Let’s use the opportunity of this percolation to lean into those feelings and reprogram our self opinion with a practice of deep gratitude, self appreciation and humor. We will cultivate physical wellbeing while developing emotional resilience which will support the release of pain patterns.
Physical wellbeing cultivation:We will unwind and deeply massage our body all while lying down.. this technique is so easy you could do it in bed, and who doesn't want another great reason to stay in bed. Self massage historically has been an experience of trading pain in your body for pain in your hands. MEssage teaches you an easy often hands free method to effectively massage your entire body. You will learn how to integrate MEssage into your yoga postures and you lounging in bed practice. We will use stretching to go deeper into tight muscles, then bring them through a range of motion while applying MEssage and use isometric contractions to push through tight fascia and release pain.
Class 2 October 17 (Inside class) How to sit with comfort, strength and power. Focus on releasing back pain in the sitting position while examining injury, illness and boundaries
Physical wellbeing cultivation:In this self-massage class we will work on the 2 key areas that cause lower and upper back pain in the sitting position. The problem is often not where the pain is, it hides in adjacent locations as a dynamic set of muscles and pulleys animate our every movement. Our upper bodies shorten as our arms rest in the locked down and forward position we will massage the the muscles in the chest and armpit area that cause upper back pain. For low back pain the problem is equally as hidden though we feel pain in our back it is the shortening of muscles in the legs that are to blame. Let's learn news ways to sit stretch and elongate our bodies.
Emotional Resilience Cultivation: Often we regard our pain as a useless pest to be eradicated but if you have ever used pain or illness to get out of doing something then pain has been useful. It has become a way to say NO. Sometimes it is the way to avoid punishment, argument, disappointment and hurt feelings. The problem with using pain to say, "No!" is that we train our bodies to break down when we need to establish a boundary. Let’s cultivate ways to say no that is kinder to our health.
Class 3 October 19 (Outside) MEssage in standing postures how to stand comfortably and healing our rejection stories.
Physical Wellbeing Cultivation:All the many times we find ourselves standing uncomfortable in line or at social gatherings, how can we cultivate strength and vitality in the standing position while releasing pain through self-massage. We will start by learning some dynamic standing self massage moves then go into anchoring moves that strengthen our standing power, that we can integrate into our everyday standing situations. Many times we don't have time to massage ourselves but if we can find ways to recover time in the moments where it is 'lost' we can invest it in healing ourselves.
Emotional Resilience Cultivation: In this class we will cultivate our emotional resilience with a relational exercise that will take us on an adventure of looking at our feelings, judgements and fears around rejection. The ways we judge, criticize and reject ourselves is often what causes experiences with others to be unbearable… let’s release the pain pattern around feeling unwanted and the discomfort and resistance in our tissue caused by this pain story.
